We aim to help graduates in South Africa build their career in the mining industry by providing opportunities across our business.
Employees train at our iron ore business
Our platinum, iron ore and thermal coal businesses run programmes and schemes for graduates and students entering the world of mining which are tailored to meet the unique requirements of that business.

Bursaries
Bursaries are offered to high-calibre candidates who aim to study in fields related to our business.
These are typically mining, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, land survey, mine survey, geology and metallurgy. Students studying finance with the intention of becoming chartered accountants are also eligible, while applications for information technology are considered.
Bursaries are awarded to students that have achieved academic excellence and demonstrate leadership qualities. These cover the cost of tuition at approved universities, accommodation and books, while a small spending allowance is also awarded on merit. School leavers or students who have progressed in their studies are able to apply.
Engineering students are expected to further their qualifications and achieve the Government Certificate of Competency and therefore require mine exposure to achieve this. The same applies to mining students who are required to obtain the Mine Managers certificate. Chartered accounting students are seconded to approved auditing firms for their training contracts. The bursary obligation is to work for Anglo American for every year that they have been sponsored for their studies.
Applications can be made with Careerwise or you can telephone (011) 484 7505.
